This week the team from Hog Roast Hayes provided their famous Hog Roast to a group of successful graduates from a local college. We were first contacted by Linda, a woman who runs an Adult Learning course for vulnerable adults who have difficulties with literacy and numeracy. With a great number of her students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, her class is often a tremendous help for finding work, as it provides them with a solid foundation of knowledge to be moving on with. As another class was coming to the end of its time at the college, Linda wanted to celebrate and decided to throw a party.
She came and spoke with us about the particulars of her event. There were thirty students graduating and an expected five members of staff attending. She wanted a Hog Roast mains with sides and vegetarian options as well as desserts. The informal event was to be held on the college campus, in the Atrium. Fortunately it was possible for us to cook inside as well, which helps to shorten the cooking time.
When the day of the event arrived, the team from Hog Roast Hayes were on site nice and early to begin preparations. The ceremony would take place at one in the afternoon, so we were on hand by eight o’clock in order to have everything ready on time. The chef butchered the Hog and placed it on the machine for roasting, as our catering assistant laid out cutlery on each of the tables we would be using for the diners, along with napkins.
The ceremony started at one and lasted about an hour, and when two o’clock came, the smell of our glorious hog was wafting through the air, and a queue was quickly forming, where the Hog Roast Hayes team would serve the hog buffet style. Guests were also treated to the option of a seasonal veg medley and roasted new potatoes on the side, or they could eat their Hog on a crusty bread roll if the preferred. Vegetarians could also get the Grilled Halloumi wrap and there was a sticky toffee pudding served for desserts.
