The 17th of December marked the last day of the school term and the beginning of the Christmas holidays for many schools up and down the country. But before shutting their doors for nearly 3 weeks, one nearby high school wanted to give their pupils a final treat before the day’s end. As a way of saying well done for all of the hard work and effort the pupils had put in throughout the year’s final term, the teachers had organised a big surprise for them: a festive hog roast lunch!
The students had been none the wiser, and so they were in a complete state of shock and awe when the lunch bell rang, and their teachers encouraged them to make their way into the courtyard. It all started making sense, though, when the smells of our delicious slow-roasted pork carried over to their direction.
Following the mouth-watering scent trail, the pupils arrived at one of the school’s massive on-site football pitches, where they discovered Hog Roast Littleton waiting for them with an impressive banquet of slow-cooked pulled pork, crispy crackling and sage and onion stuffing with an applesauce dressing. To ensure the meal would be ready on time for the midday rush, our caterers had arrived at the secondary school at 6 o’clock in the morning, and sure enough, everything was cooked to absolute perfection.
Bringing a festive touch to the menu, Hog Roast Littleton’s caterers had also prepared our homemade cauliflower cheese recipe, a medley of glazed seasonal veggies so the kids could get their five a day (or at least some of them, anyway!), pigs in blankets and crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside roast potatoes. Our team also made sure to serve up several portions of our BBQ pulled jackfruit rolls with vegan coleslaw for the plant-based pupils. And because the kids were eating outside, our staff also set up a buffet table of hot drinks, which offered tea, coffee and hot chocolate options.
For the students, Hog Roast Littleton’s festive lunch proved the perfect way to end the school year, and they savoured every bite!
