At Hog Roast Willesden we’ve always been big fans of major sporting competitions, and like everyone we always love a good success or fairy tale story. We were already loving this past US Open with all the incredible tennis action on show and our many events around the area all dedicated to the wonderful sport. We had watch party events call us out to serve up a feast for their friends while all enjoyed the best in the world going head-to-head, as well as some local clubs hitting tennis fever and calling us out to their competitions to pitch a few aces to their valiant players. It was a wonderful time enough while it went on, but never in a million years could we have envisioned the kind of wondrous success story that came out of the US Open – and for one of our own in the UK no less!
Hog Roast Willesden offers up a hearty congratulations to 18-year Emma Raducanu for making history like no other at the US Open this year. Not only to be competing at the heights of the competition at such a young age but to also make history as the first ever qualifier to win a grand slam and to be the first female Brit to win a grand slam since 1977 too, and to do it in an invincible manner having not lost a single set out of 20 across 10 matches! Truly magnificent and something that should be an inspiration to all, especially, hopefully, young girls everywhere. It certainly has inspired quite a few at Hog Roast Willesden to pick up a racquet again which is some feat considering we usually prefer to spend our time gorging out on lovely roasts – quite the opposite feat, in many ways.
Emma captured the hearts of the world, and we were delighted to capture her journey along with many of our customers through the various watch events we attended along the way. Hog Roast Willesden is all about making history, and though we might not quite match up to Emma on the court we reckon we can compete at the grill and hog roast – which she is of course more than entitled to enjoy with us anytime she wishes!
